I have had my first encounter this morning with a magpie that lives on aberglassyn road at rutherford. And yes he did draw blood. Are there any other locations that I need to be aware of with any other aggressive magpies that go for the left side of your face and bite you????

On the corner after the bridge as you get onto Kooragang from the Tourle St end.

At the roundabout after crossroads Glendale.

Tingara Dr on the last hill just before you come down towards the lake.

Speers Point at the RSL memorial.

And another about 2 km up old Razorback road in Camden (got me on Fri)

As for a good method of defence I find once you know where they are give them a full squirt of the bidon in their face as they come in for the final approach, after a few goes you only have to squirt in their general direction and they will leave you alone.

Then there is the butcher bird in my backyard that attacks as soon as you walk out either the front or rear door, this one puts deep gashes on your face and is now starting to go for the eyes, my next door neighbour wears a bee keepers hat, but it now goes for her fingers when she is putting clothes on the line, it attacks anyone that walks up the road and has taken cuts out kids and adults.

This one is not scared of the hose, whipper snipper, lawnmower or even when rocks or sticks are thrown at it, I am going to see the council about getting something done with this one as it is a real danger.

The Magpie on John Renshaw drive at the BP servo is a rather aggressive one my helmet on the side looks like a pin cushion from his beak.

Mick Chapman has a great yarn about a magpie he stired up when he use to ride a bike.

I am probably well known for my fear of magpies but I learnt yesterday BEWARE OR KANGAROOS. They can cause considerable damage and lead one to waste hours in emergency ward. And my taper for the Masters Road Championships is now a more extensive taper than I had planned. (If my body is well enough to drive to Canberra and compete mid next week).

If it wasintending to scare me, then it succeeded. They are a big angry bird.

I was riding pre-dawn from Thredbo to Jindy and back in March 2008, to get some different training in while at Thredbo for a mate's wedding. Scary feeling to see this thing running alongside -I was not going to be able to outrun it, even with the slight descent and tailwind at the time. Thankfully it lost interest. Perhaps I was inside its territory.

Thankfully it was not there for the return trip from Jindy - I suspect that my panting coming up the hill, in to a headwind in an early mornign shower, was enough to scare it away.

Was swooped four times by the maggie at the Windale bowling club. There's one on Maitland Rd at the Warabrook lights that will have a go too.

Is the magpie near the Toule St bridge still there? I have been told of this mythical beast, but have not yet had the "pleasure" of his company.

I was told, by Wayne Swan, that there is a magpie opposite the Red Funnel Fish Wholesaler on Park Ave, Kotara. I've not seen it yet, but when travelling home will go via Carnley Ave instead of Park Ave.

The Angry Ferret, aka Big Steve, sports a cut to his left ear from "The Condor", the huge agggro magpie from near the Servos near the big roundabout just near the Blackhill course. It is one angry animal, and the magpie is pretty angry too

I do not know if there is any truth to the rumours that a certain Team Windsock member was coaching the said Condor to attack anyone wearing Team Active gear - you know me, not want to start any tensions amongst the Coke drinking classes before Friday Night World Championships start...

Two magpies like to attack on the Kotara cycleway, just as you enter the trees when travelling from Park Ave towards the Catholic Primary School. They were in the same spot last year.

The magpie near the Toule St Bridge made its presence known to me recently - seems to like to come from low.

At KI on Sunday morning I was warming up before the race & pulled in to the driveway just up from the KOCC shed for a nature stop. I leaned my bike against the chain mesh fence & went about my business only to be constantly swooped by a magpie.....most disconcerting. He didn't seem to venture out onto the road though.

I had wondered where the KOCC Piss Nazi has been - she does exist - but now we know. She has been training her Attack Magpies to swoop on evil public urinators!

My response above may not make much sense to you, but there was a group of people who were very much affronted by people - well, men - who would urinate in public before a race. KOCC erected a sign that, from memory, reminded cyclists that urinating in public is something you can be issued a race fine by the Commissaire. The chief complainant was dubbed "The Piss Nazi".

She is not around cycling nowadays, but her legacy lives on.

It seems the Piss Nazi was unsuccessful in curtailing this misdemeanor. Last week I parked the car with my partner sitting in the passenger seat only to have somebody from the car in front take a leak standing next to their passenger door. A little discretion might be the answer. That said my partner was bemused enough to let the offender know of her presence, much to his embarrassment.

Back to topic.

A magpie attacked me on Sunday, riding up Lambton Rd (close to the intersection with Wallarah Rd) toward New Lambton. It was one of those "sitters" - seemed to want to sit on my helmet. No pecking or aggressive swooping, but enough to want to avoid until cats get to its chicks.
